Feedback

Definition: A clause granting the provider broad rights — usually unconditional and uncompensated — to use any feedback, suggestions, or ratings a user, developer, or customer submits about the service. It’s distinct from Input/Output license clauses because feedback is commentary about the service, not content the service generates. What stands out is how consistently every GenAI provider tracked here words the grant as unconditional and uncompensated (“without any obligation,” “without restriction or compensation,” “at its own risk and without obligation to Customer”); none offers compensation or an opt-out. Most GenAI providers tracked so far follow the same structure: a low-friction invitation to give feedback (“we appreciate,” “no obligation to give”), paired with a broad, one-sided usage grant using explicit “without compensation”/“without obligation” language. Unlike the PGAv2 wiki’s royalty-free/sublicensable Content clauses (which usually stack several qualifiers — perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide), Feedback clauses here are comparatively terse — typically one sentence, with no stacking of extra qualifiers. Claude.ai’s Terms of Service is the only one to specify a concrete feedback mechanism (thumbs up/down rating an Output), tying the broad-use grant to a specific UI action rather than leaving “feedback” undefined. Microsoft Copilot is the outlier in the other direction: instead of granting itself broad usage rights over Feedback, it explicitly disclaims ownership, folding Feedback into the same no-ownership-claim that covers ordinary user content — the most user-protective Feedback framing in this dataset. Perplexity, Qwen Chat, and xAI are the only providers to use a full rights assignment (“you hereby assign… any and all right, title and interest”) rather than a mere license grant — a structurally stronger claim than every other provider’s Feedback clause, now confirmed across 3 of 11 GenAI providers. Qwen Chat’s Terms of Service also ties Feedback to its UI rating mechanism (thumbs up/down), like Claude.ai’s and xAI’s own Privacy Policy, while still using the stronger assignment language.
